Leachables are chemical compounds and trace metals that can be released from plastic laboratory consumables under standard conditions of use and storage. Strong acids or solvents are not necessarily required for the release of leachables from plastics; water can leach metal ions, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments, and surfactants from plastic materials.
